Rural Land Use Strategy (Draft)
Council is currently working on the draft Ballarat Rural Land Use Strategy to ensure the long-term productivity and sustainable development of Ballarat's rural areas.
The findings of the draft 'Rural Areas Review' (2008) were reassessed following public consultation in late 2007. This reassessment determined that whilst the Review thoroughly analysed existing land use issues, it did not establish an agreed vision for the municipality's rural areas.
The draft Rural Areas Review will be used as a foundation for the Ballarat Rural Land Use Strategy. Council have engaged planning consultants Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) to assist with this Strategy. PB have been involved in a range of rural land use strategies across Victoria.
The key outcomes of the Ballarat Rural Land Use Strategy will be a long-term vision for the municipality's rural areas and an assessment of the validity of the existing rural land use controls. It is not intended that this strategy will facilitate rezoning requests for individual landholders.
