About MyChoice for Living
The “MyChoice for Living” new resident attraction initiative was introduced by the City of Ballarat’s Economic Development Unit (formerly known as Business Ballarat) in August 2001, as a mechanism to:
ï¶ Attract new residents to Ballarat, and thereby increase the social, economic and cultural diversity of the local community.
ï¶ Provide practical and valuable assistance to new residents, and facilitate their introduction to the local community and marketplace.
ï¶ Engage the business community in a meaningful partnership, which has tangible business outcomes.
ï¶ Generate new business prospects (for contributing businesses), leading to business growth, the creation of employment opportunities, and the development of business relationships.
ï¶ Collection and analysis of statistical information relating to new resident demographics and migration trends, and identification of the primary relocation factors.
ï¶ Utilise the statistics gathered to develop appropriate support programs for new residents.
ï¶ Continue to develop a suite of effective, attraction iniatives.
ï¶ Promote Ballarat as a preferred destination to live, work, invest and visit.
Essentially the initiative consists of over $20,000 worth of discounted goods and services from over 110 contributing Ballarat businesses. The MyChoice package is only available to new residents, and application is made in-person at the City of Ballarat Municipal Offices, along with the production of suitable supporting documentation (such as a rental lease agreement).
