Multicultural Road Map Connecting Ballarat

The multicultural information seminar for Community, Education and Health sector workers held at Ballarat Lodge on 21 November.

Over 30 people came to hear Multicultural Ambassadors Margaret Lenan Ellis, Peter Rademaker, Jean Ntumba-Mbiya and Ines Kallweit speak about their experiences as migrants arriving in Ballarat.

Narelle Hibberd from Council’s Ballarat Migration Project spoke about the project, its activities and the Skilled Migration and Refugee Settlement programs.

Barbara Fong, (BRMC), Sulaika Dhanapala, (Refugee Support Group) and Ilana McLeod (Central Highlands Cultural Network) also briefed attendees about cultural issues, local support systems available to assist Migration and the services their particular organisation offered to both migrants and potential employers.

The session finished with a panel of all the represented groups taking questions taken from the floor about migration. Information packs about migration, the various programs and how to get involved were handed out.

The Ambassadors are available to speak at your organisations next work or social function.
