Ballarat Aerodrome
Ballarat’s own Aerodrome is well equipped to meet regional demand, and is gearing up to accommodate future regional and interstate demand.
The Ballarat Aerodrome is easily accessible, located seven (7) kilometres north-west of the city centre on 467 hectares of land, and is less than one kilometre from the Western Freeway. Infrastructure at the Airport consists of three (3) runways, two (2) taxiways, a 30,000 m2 apron, five (5) hangars with direct apron access, a 150 m2 terminal building, other commercially leased buildings, two (2) refuelling facilities, a non-directional beacon and an automatic weather station. The facilities at the Ballarat Aerodrome support a number of commercial aviation enterprises, including aerial agriculture, corporate charter, recreational charter, aircraft support services (such as fleet maintenance); in addition to supporting medical services, a range of community groups and a number of community celebrations and events.
Currently, there are 16,000 aircraft movements per year, which are predominantly general aviation; and this figure is expected to increase by 25 per annum, to give a forecast 20,400 aircraft movements by 2014. Furthermore, planning infrastructure expansion at the airport will accommodate future growth in charter, medical and military aviation, in addition to allowing for the development of regular passenger transport – offering regional and interstate services.
Details are included in the Ballarat Aerodrome Master Plan 2004-2014.
